May is Foster Care Month.


Here are five things you need to know today:

 

1) More clouds... again: Although it should reach a balmy 73 degrees, we can expect more cloudy weather in Woburn today. According to the National Weather Service, we will see rain showers and fog. But don't get down, we may see some sunshine Thursday!

2) Foster Care Month: May is National Foster Care Month. Devereaux Therapeutic Foster Care is hosting an today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Devereaux is located at 800 West Cummings Park.

3) Event Spotlight: The Girl Scouts are holding its tonight at the Trinity Church. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. For more information on the Girl Scouts and this year's registration, . 

 

4) In Case You Missed It: The city is looking for volunteers to help with Memorial Day festivities. .

 

5. A pirate's execution: On this day in 1701, Captain Kidd—British sea captain William Kidd—was executed in London. Kidd was hanged on charges of piracy and murder. Once someone commissioned to rid the waters of pirates, Kidd had allegedly jumped ship to the other side, said authorities. Kidd claimed he was legit and was not pirating treasures. But he was convicted and executed for his alleged crimes. Legend followed that Kidd had left behind buried treasure. But no one has found it.
