Today is Thursday, May 26. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Heatwave: Don’t spoil us now, Mother Nature! The National Weather Service is expecting mostly sunny skies today with temperatures in the 80s. All right, kids, repeat after me: "Can we have extra recess?!" 
  2. We all scream for ice cream: The PTO is holding its annual tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are only $4 per adult and $2 per child. There will also be items raffled off at the event.
  3. Appreciate others: The will host a night of celebration honoring and appreciating those that help their children. The event starts at 7 p.m. and thanks teachers, therapists, bus drivers and more. The ceremony will be held at .
  4. In case you missed it: The Woburn Agricultural Committee is ready to open the city’s Farmers Market at Spence Farm next month. The first market will be held on Sunday, June 5 and will continue every Sunday until October. Read all about it here!
  5. Get out the garlic: On this day in 1897, the world was introduced to Transylvania, where the famous vampire Count Dracula lived. Bram Stoker’s Dracula was first offered for sale in London today and is still a popular literary favorite. The book is now in the public domain and is often available with e-reader applications on smartphones and computers.
