Five Things You Need to Know Today, May 27

Happy Friday, Woburn Patch readers!

"Five Things You Need to Know Today" is a Patch column that provides readers with essential, daily information at a glance. Let us know what you think of the feature in the comments section.

Today is Friday, May 27. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. A mixed bag: Looks like we’ll get a little bit of everything today, as the National Weather Service is forecasting both possible showers and mostly sunny skies at different times today. But don’t worry too much about the rain, the NWS is predicting only a 30 percent chance of precipitation. Temps should reach 80 again today.
  2. Lights of remembrance: As we told you earlier this week, the sixth annual will take place on Sunday. Tonight, head over Whole Foods between 4 and 7 p.m. and for the walk in memory of a lost loved one.
  3. Wine tasting: The store on Main Street will hold a from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
  4. In case you missed it: Our Bites Nearby column took a look at the city’s newest eatery— in downtown Woburn. Learn all about its menu and more by reading our column today!
  5. A spectacular suspension: On this day in 1937, the Golden Gate Bridge opened, linking San Francisco and Marin County, California. The bridge was, at the time, the longest suspension bridge and opened to great fanfare. Schools and businesses were closed, to give residents the chance to walk on the bridge. The next day, it was opened to cars. The bridge has served as a famous landmark ever since, gracing television screens as part of several shows, including Full House, the Streets of San Francisco (of course!) and the 98 Degrees video “Because of You,” just to name three.
