 Today is Tuesday, May 3. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. April showers brings May showers?: The National Weather Service is expecting a rainy day today, with clouds and storms forecasted for much of the day. According to the NWS, a thunderstorm is likely between 1 and 3 p.m. today, with showers probably after 3 p.m. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent.    
  2. National Scrapbooking Month: Celebrate National Scrapbooking Month at the Senior Center today with the weekly meeting of its scrapbooking group.

  4. In case you missed it: We caught up with the , which included several arrests, including one man who used a kitchen knife to persuade another to leave the room. Also, a pedestrian bridge at Horn Pond was damaged over the weekend and police believe it may have been the work of several perpetrators. .
  5. A mother gets MADD: On this day in 1980, 13-year-old Cari Lightner of California was killed by a drunk driver while walking to a church carnival. The death of her daughter by a man with a record of driving drunk causes Candy Lightner to create MADD—Mothers Against Drunk Driving. By 1985, when Lightner left the organization, MADD had grown to over 600,000 volunteers and members. After 20 years in existence, statistics show that alcohol-related fatalities are down 40 percent.
