Four protesters are killed, a fifth permanently paralyzed and eight students wounded. The students were rioting and protesting the ongoing Vietnam War and had been dispersed the day before. But while classes resumed, another 2,000 students congregated at the campus and began protesting again. The National Guard fired into the protest, after demonstrators taunted the troops by throwing rocks, yelling and refusing to leave. A federal court dropped any criminal charges against the National Guardsmen in 1974 following an investigation.
