Five Things You Need to Know Today, Nov. 28

The Woburn Historical Society hosts an evening of swing at WMHS.

Here are five things you need to know today:

 

1) Chance of showers: Our week will likely be off to a cloudy start today, as the National Weather Service is expecting clouds and some rain. Temperatures will probably be in the 40s. Grab those gloves before you head back to school or work!

2) Back to school: will re-open today, as will and other public offices. It might be a rough start after having four days off, so make sure to have a big breakfast and be ready for the day!

3) Event spotlight: The will host an with the Beantown Swing Orchestra tonight at Woburn Memorial High School. The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. In addition to the orchestra, American Idol Season 3 finalist John Stevens and singer Laura Brunner will perform.

5) Magellan sails the Pacific: On this day in 1520, explorer Ferdinand Magellan sailed below South America and entered into the Pacific Ocean. Magellan’s three ships were the first European boats to enter the Pacific. Magellan had left Spain in September 1519 to explore a western sea route. He discovered the Strait of Magellan in October 1520.
