Here are five things you need to know today:

 

1) Clouds, clouds, sun!: After a rainy start this morning, the National Weather Service says we’ll see clouds for most of the day. The sun is expected to make an appearance later as temperatures rise into the high 60s. You’ll need to hold onto your hats though, wind gusts may reach 30 miles per hour this afternoon!

5) If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me?: On this day in 1977, three members of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd were killed in a plane crash that also killed three others. The band’s plane, which was originally bypassed by Aerosmith amid concerns about the flight crew, crashed in the Mississippi woods during a trip to Louisiana. According to investigations after the crash, the plane ran out of fuel and air traffic control was only notified about 13 minutes before the gas ran out. The band’s famous question, asked in the hit “Free Bird,” was answered by legions of fans that continue to listen to the band today.
