Five Things You Need to Know Today, Sept. 13

School Committee meets tonight.

Today is Tuesday, Sept. 13. Here are five things you need to know:

 

1) Summer revisited: It’ll be a lovely day today, as we go back to some summer weather. According to the National Weather Service, Woburn will have sunny skies and temperatures in the low 80s. Hey teachers, maybe we can give the kids a little extra recess today?

2) School Committee: The Woburn School Committee will meet tonight at the at 7 p.m. On the agenda are summer updates, new Malcolm White principal Eric Stark and more.

3) Sports are back: The Tanners are back in session. Today, the will take on Burlington at 3:45 p.m.  

 

4) In case you missed it: The city came together to support the during a candlelight vigil Sunday night. The vigil also gave the community a chance to reflect on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks a decade ago.  

 

5) Lady's First: On this day in 1948, Maine Republican Margaret Chase Smith was elected to the U.S. Senate, becoming the first woman to be elected to the Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives (1940-1949). Smith was also the first woman to have her name in the nomination for U.S. President with a majory party when she was considered at the 1964 Republican Convention, which was eventually won by Barry Goldwater.
