Today is Friday, Sept. 2. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Zippy weather: OK, we’re not quite sure what that means, but we were shooting for a link to the today! It’ll be mostly sunny with temperatures in the mid 70s.
  2. Zip Trip: In case you skipped the weather forecast, let us remind you here, today is Make sure to stop by and show your Tanner Pride, as our friends at Fox broadcast live from (the newer side, near the memorials and restrooms).
  3. Yard sale: An Olympia Avenue resident is hosting a rare starting at 10 a.m. Find toys, video games, collectibles, books, CDs, DVDs and other items on sale.
  4. In case you missed it: In the late afternoon yesterday, we learned that a Woburn man allegedly stole a car on Montvale Avenue and was later arrested by Stoneham Police.
  5. An epic life: On this day in 1973, scholar and writer J.R.R. Tokien passed away at the age of 81. Tolkien is best known for his fantasy epic "The Lord of the Rings" and the children's story that started it all, "The Hobbit." Many more of his works on Middle Earth were published posthumously by his son Christopher Tolkien, including "The Similliarion" and the collections of "Books of Lost Tales." Aside from fantasy writing, Tolkien was also a scholar and worked on the "Oxford English Dictionary," where he focused on the history and etymology of the letter W. He was also a veteran of World War I.
