Here are five things you need to know today in Woburn:
1) Event spotlight
The armory building will be one of the topics up for discussion tonight at the Planning Board meeting. The committee will meet tonight at City Hall at 7 p.m. The armory is located on Main Street and the Planning Board will consider a zoning change to the parcel.
2) Downtown fire threatens city
Three downtown buildings were on fire Sept. 25, 1923, according to the Meridien Morning Record. The newspaper reported that three wooden buildings were completely destroyed by flames shortly before midnight, and the fire was still going well into the morning hours. A large truck factory had not been destroyed, but was threatened by the fire. The newspaper reported the damage at approximately $150,000.
3) A repeat of yesterday
According to the National Weather Service, we'll have a splendid Tuesday on our hands today. Temperatures will stay in the low 70s and it's expected to stay sunny all day. Expect a slight wind in the afternoon. Clouds will arrive after dark, says the NWS.
4) In case you missed it
A Woburn man was stopped after a caller reported a man was acting suspiciously in the city's community gardens. The caller told police the man was stealing vegetables. Read that report and more in yesterday's Woburn Police log.
5) I think I love you
On this day in 1970, the television show The Partridge Family premiered on network TV. The show featured a singing family with matriarch Shirley Partridge, played by Shirley Jones. The show would spawn a number one single with the song "I Think I Love You."
