5) More than just a beer: On this day in 1722, Samuel Adams was born. The Boston patriot is known as one of the founding fathers of the United States. He played a large role in the Revolution, rallying against the British and their unfair taxation. After the Revolution, Adams served in the Massachusetts state Senate and was elected governor. Playing upon the fact that Adams was a brewer, the Boston Beer Company has several Sam Adams lagers.
