Five Things You Need to Know Today, Sept. 5

It's Labor Day! So, uh, don't do any labor today, OK?

Today is Monday, Sept. 5. Here are five things you need to know:

 

1) Fall is upon us: It’s Labor Day, the unofficial end of summer. And Mother Nature is trying to ease us back into work and school with some clouds and a 50 percent chance of rain. Expect temperatures to be close to 80 though.

2) City Hall and other offices: Don’t forget, is closed today, as are all other city offices. As always, the and departments, as well as the , will be on hand for any emergencies.

3) Trash delay: Don’t forget, due to the Labor Day holiday observance, trash is on a one-day delay this week.

 

4) In case you missed it: The Fox 25 morning news crew was in town last Friday for its final Zip Trip of the summer. .

 

5) Never trust anyone over 30: On this day in 1957, Jack Kerouac published his Beatnik novel “On the Road.” The credo of the Beat movement was “never trust anyone over 30.” Well, Kerouac was 35, but it’s still one of the defining pieces of Beat literature. Kerouac wrote the novel in just three weeks.
