5) The Iron Man: On this day in 1995, the Baltimore Orioles’ “Iron Man” Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrig’s Major League Baseball consecutive-games-played streak. Ripken played in game #2,131 against the California Angels in Baltimore, to an excited crowd that included President Bill Clinton. Ripken would play 2,632 games in a row before breaking his streak, which lasted over 13 MLB seasons. The Iron Man retired from baseball in 2001.
