UPDATE: Hang Onto Your Hats, Watch Out For Falling Debris

Wind causing damage throughout the city early Saturday morning.

Update, Saturday, 9:30 a.m.:

High winds on Saturday morning are wreaking havoc all over the city, as the Department of Public Works is dealing with falling debris and downed trees.

Officials are blocking off the area around the U.S. Post Office at 9:30 a.m. this morning, after winds caused the top part of the roof to come off of the Federal Street building.

Trees are also down on Abbott Court and Merrimac Street, and tree limbs are down all over the city. A car was also damaged on Pinto Road due to a falling a tree.

Saturday, 8 a.m.:   

A wind advisory went into effect at 8 a.m. this morning, due to National Weather Service predictions of high wind gusts for today and into Sunday.

The NWS is expecting winds to reach 25 to 35 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 50 miles per hour. 

According to the NWS, strong winds will arrive shortly after sunrise and continue into Saturday night.

The wind advisory is in effect for all of Massachusetts, as well as Connecticut, Rhode Island and parts of New Hampshire between 8 a.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday. 

Wind advisories are issued by the NWS when sustained winds are expected to be between 31 and 39 miles per hour or gusts will be between 46 and 57 miles per hour. 

Winds this strong can cause isolated power outages, downed tree limbs and branches and difficult driving.
