Head to the Tropics ... Without Leaving Woburn

Enjoy a summery tropical cocktail from the comfort of your own home.

During the summer months a lot of us like to escape. While some of us will take advantage of the dog days of summer and go on a trip somewhere, others will stay in the area and take a staycation.

If you are a staycationer like I am, why not do some armchair traveling with a good coffee table travel book and a nice tropical cocktail? You can pretend like you are in paradise while in the comfort of your very own home. Or you can host a tropical party, invite some fellow staycationers to join you, and serve up a few of these cocktails to celebrate summer.

This cocktail is very basic in terms of ingredients because I don’t like to make complicated drinks. All you need is white rum and a few fruit juices. The combination of lime juice, guava nectar, orange juice and pineapple juice make this exotic and sweet. The burst of flavor will have your taste buds dancing. And you can pretend you are far, far away while you sip this tropical delight.

Ingredients:

1 orange

1 medium sized can of sliced pineapple with juice

1 9.5 oz can of guava nectar

1 lime (not shown)

3-4 jiggers of white rum (4 if you like your drink really strong)

ice cubes

This makes 4 good sized cocktails.

Cut your orange in half. Then cut two large slices. Cut those slices in half so you have 4 crescents to use as garnish. Juice the leftover halves of the orange.

Mix the juice of the orange, pineapple juice and guava nectar in a small pitcher or bowl. Add some freshly squeezed lime juice as well as the jiggers of white rum. If you have a cocktail shaker, add ice cubes to the shaker, then the cocktail mixture and shake. Strain into cocktail glasses. If you don't have a cocktail shaker, add a couple of ice cubes and set the pitcher or bowl in the fridge for a while to cool. This drink is better cold than room temperature. Add a piece of orange and a slice of pineapple to the rim of your cocktail glass for garnish.

Enjoy and please drink responsibly!
