Irene: Can't Get There From Here

After days of tracking Hurricane Irene and making plans, several airlines, state and federal agencies have canceled or severely limited transportation service. Here’s a rundown of the different decisions affecting travel for Sunday.

If you had a flight planned for Sunday or Monday, call or check online with your airline ahead of time to check on the flight’s status. Be sure to check the airline's policy on weather-related cancellations to see if you can get a refund or free transfer to another flight.

MBTA

The MBTA will suspended all service at 8 a.m. Sunday according to an advisory on the agency’s website. The shutdown will allow T workers to focus on a Monday morning restart.

The RIDE will remain available on a limited basis for medical-related trips, according to the MBTA.

Amtrak

The railway canceled Sunday trips on the northeast corridor between Boston and Washington D.C., along with other service outside of the Boston area.

Highways, Tunnels and Bridges

Mass DOT has suspended all toll collection on the Mass Pike, Tobin Bridge and the harbor tunnels between midnight and 10 p.m. Sunday. That’s not a gift; it’s a safety measure, and the agency asks that drivers stay home and avoid the roads if at all possible.
