Nanabette's: A South Woburn Summer Delight

Take a walk down Main Street and enjoy an old-fashioned summer favorite at this ice cream stand.

in South Woburn is a family-run ice cream shoppe that has been a haven for Woburnites every summer since 2003.  Driving down Main Street on any nice summer day, it's very likely you'll see some folks quickly devouring a Nanabette's ice cream before it melts under the hot sun.

Nanabette's is open daily from noon to 9 p.m. during the warm weather months and hours of operation can change depending on the weather. The place is very small and there is limited on-street parking. Order at the window and either take your treat to go or sit at one of their three large picnic tables.

The shoppe serves all types of ice cream in multiple flavors including basics like vanilla, strawberry and chocolate to more exotic choices such as caramel cashew crunch, black raspberry and coconut almond bar. They also have classics such as pistachio, maple walnut, cookie dough and coffee oreo. You can order frozen yogurt, soft-serve ice cream and sugar-free ice cream too. Have it in a cup or cone; they also have waffle and chocolate waffle cones for a bit extra. Toppings include chocolate and rainbow jimmies, walnuts, hot fudge, dip for soft-serve, etc.. We highly recommend their mint chocolate chip ice cream on a waffle cone with chocolate jimmies.

Brought a friend? Why not share one of their Sundaes? Build your own or buy one of their specialties. There is no banana split sundae on the menu but they have various sundaes topped with chocolate candy bars like Almond Joy, Snickers, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Butterfingers. Next time we'll have to try the Rice Krispie Treat with vanilla soft-serve, rice krispies, marshmallow and butterscotch.

If you'd rather have a cold drink, Nanabette's serves Ice Cream Frappes, Sherbert Coolers and Sherbert and Creamsicle Freezes along with bottle water and a small assortment of sodas. Want to add something to your treat to make it a meal? A hot dog is just $1.75. You can get 2, a bag of chips and a frappe for $8.25 and call it a day.

Not in the mood for ice cream? Cool down with one of their classic Italian slushes. Root beer, cherry, classic lemon, watermelon and mango are just some of the flavors. Or turn your mouth bright blue with their blue rapsberry slush! You can also order your slush topped off or layered with some soft-serve ice cream.

Prices are reasonable and sizes are generous. Sizes include Kiddie (ice cream only), Small, Medium and Large and you can get Slush by the gallon bucket and their regular or soft-serve ice cream by the pint or quart.

For those of you with smart phones, you can scan the QR code located on the side of the building and check-in to their Facebook page.

Nanabette's does not accept credit cards so bring cash or your checkbook. So next time you have a little extra cash in your wallet and are in the mood for an icy treat to cool you down, swing by Nanabette's!
