National Weather Service Issues Fire Warning for Today

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning in effect until 7 p.m. this evening

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning that started at 11 a.m. this morning and will extend to 7 p.m. tonight. The warning is for most areas of Massachusetts, northern Connecticut and Rhode Island.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures create a heightened chance of fire, the NWS states.

The warning states that dry northwest winds gusting between 25 and 30 miles per hour combined with a single-digit dewpoint will result in "an elevated fire spread potential in snow-free locations."
