Police said officers were rotated for 20 hours on the scene of one downed wire incident on Lake Avenue, while waiting for NSTAR to restore power.

When asked for a statement regarding the Woburn calls on Sunday, NSTAR media representatives did not return messages Monday.

According to the electric company's Web site, NSTAR uses an "advanced, computerized control system" to discover large power outages. That system is supplemented by reports from area police and fire departments, as well as customer complaints.Β

Customers without power should notify NSTAR by calling 800-592-2000 to ensure that the company is aware of their outage.

According to NSTAR, "in the event of a major storm, NSTAR implements an emergency plan of operation which places the efforts of the entire company behind power restoration 24-hours a day. We will try to restore electric service to the maximum number of customers in the shortest possible time."
