IMAGE GALLERY: Yankee Brigade Departs for Afghanistan By Way of Texas

Woburn resident is just one of many troops who left for Texas today, en route to a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

The 26th Yankee Brigade & 26th Signal Company departed for Fort Hood, Texas, Tuesday following a send-off ceremony at Reading Memorial High School's Hawkes Field House.

After training for several weeks in Texas, the brigade will deploy to Afghanistan where it will assume command of Kabul Base Cluster, a group of 11 U.S. bases operating in Afghanistan's Kabul province.

Woburn resident Melissa Vizena was just one of the many troops who left Tuesday. She and her husband Seamus were married on Christmas Eve last year so that they would be husband and wife before Melissa left for Afghanistan.
