Woburn Patch selects Elizabeth Nguyn as the Whiz Kid of the Week.

Each week, Woburn Patch will select a . This week, we chose Elizabeth Nguyn, an 11-year-old fifth-grader at Shamrock School. Nguyn is a super basketball shot and represented the city in the Elks Hoop Shoot contest.

  • Elizabeth Nguyn, age 11
  • Elizabeth Nguyn represented the city of Woburn in the state Elks Hoop Shoot tournament. She came in second for the entire state, scoring 16 out of 25 shots.
  • Elizabeth's "Key to Awesomeness" is her ability to be friends with everyone, says Shamrock School Principal Wayne Clark. "One of the great things about Elizabeth is that she is a great citizen of the school. All the other kids like her, and she gets along really well with them... She gets along equally well with boys and girls, which is a hard trick." Elizabeth is also known as a great athlete, said Clark. She practiced her basketball shooting in gym class, leading up to the Elks Hoop Shoot last month. Elizabeth landed more shots than anyone else in the competition, earning her Woburn's spot at the state tournament in Maynard. Elizabeth, who plays in the Recreation Department's basketball league, said she enjoyed the Hoop Shoot experience. "It was really fun," she said.
