Whiz Kid of the Week: Ray Pavone

Each week, Woburn Patch will select a . This week, we chose Ray Pavone, a 11-year-old student at Joyce Middle School. Pavone is a geography whiz, who recently qualified to represent Joyce at the state Geography Bee in April.

  • Ray qualified to represent the Joyce Middle School at the Massachusetts state geography bee on April 1. 
  • Ray's "Key to Awesomeness" is that he is a well-rounded individual. Not just an accomplished student who has earned High Honors at Joyce, Ray is also a Scrabble Club member, soccer player, past member of The Math Club in Lexington, student at New England Small Circle Jujitsu, Woburn Public Library summer volunteer, and a "great big brother to his younger brother, Michael, and sister, Sophia," said his mom, Clara. "He is a well-rounded, steady young man who always shares his smile," mom added. "He’s intelligent and friendly and always tries his best in whatever he does." Ray's principal at Joyce, Thomas Qualey, said that Ray is a "hard-working student who excels in class."
