Introduction to Iaido
The Introduction to Iaido series is a three month course designed to give the beginning student an introduction into the movements, concepts and vocabulary associated with Iaido. Although this course is designed for beginners, more advanced students may find it useful to hone their skills.
The course has been broken down into three distinct units covering Shoden, the first set of technique, from Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido.
Intro to Iaido 1: Thursdays 6:00 – 7:00 pm. Nov 1st –Nov 29th
• History of Iaido
• Terms and anatomy of the sword
• Basic cuts
• First two techniques from Shoden
Intro to Iaido 2: Thursdays 6:00 – 7:00pm. Dec 6th – Jan 3rd
• Further exploration of the sword
• Advanced cuts
• Deeper exploration of sword use
• Next 6 techniques from Shoden
Intro to Iaido 3: Thursdays 6:00 – 7:00pm and Saturdays 10:30 – 11:30am, Jan 10th – 31st
• Entire set of Shoden
• Introduction to Chuden (middle level set)
Per unit rate: $100
Discounted rate for complete three-part course paid by November 14th: $200
White Judo Gi and a Boken (wooden practice sword), which may be purchased through any purveyor, or also available at the dojo.Boken - $75 ($20 rental)Gi - $55 A journal and pen should be brought to each class.
Although an Iaito (practice sword) and Hakama (traditional uniform) are not required, it is highly recommended.
