Former Red Sox Hero to Talk Baseball, Battle With Addiction in Woburn

Former Red Sox Bernie Carbo will speak in Woburn later this month.

Bernie Carbo, who hit a memorable pinch-hit three-run home run in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series, will be sharing his tales of baseball and addiction during an upcoming speaking appearance at Woburn Public Library.

During the event scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m., Carbo will talk about his battles with drug and alcohol addiction, his attempt at suicide and more recently his conversion to Christianity and founding of a ministry.

Carbo teamed up with clinical psychologist Dr. Peter Hantzis to write the book "Saving Bernie Carbo." Hantzis has ties to Woburn as he led the Tanners to the 2000 state soccer championship, according to a library press release.

While speaking in Woburn, Carbo will take residents back to the night in 1975 when he tied the World Series game in the eighth inning, setting up Carlton Fisk's now famous home run off the left field foul pole four innings later.

Admission to the event is free and no tickets are required.Β
