The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for parts of Massachusetts until 9 p.m., including Middlesex County.
Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected today and later tonight, with some storms having the potential to become severe.
A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes.
Earlier today parts of Connecticut received 2 inches of rain in less than an hour.
The NWS is advising motorists to not drive vehicles into areas where roadways are covered by water. The water depth may be too great to allow vehicles to cross safely. For up-to-the minute updates on this story and others, follow Woburn Patch on Facebook and Twitter, or sign-up for our e-mail newsletter.
