Woburn Honors Veterans Like 'No Community Anywhere in the State'

Following Monday's parade there was a ceremony on Woburn Common.

Cities and towns across the state celebrated Veterans Day on Monday. But according to one official, Woburn stood out above the rest.

"There is no community anywhere in the state that celebrates and honors veterans like Woburn does," said State Rep. Jay Kaufman as he addressed a large crowd on Woburn Common on Monday morning.

Woburn's ceremony included a variety of speakers who touched on the importance of the work the city's Veteran's Services department does, and the importance of teaching young children how to respect the men and women who have served in the armed forces.

"It's nice to see the young students here acknowledging the veterans," said Mayor Scott Galvin. "Thank you to the students. Keep it up. Our veterans deserve it."

State Rep. Jim Dwyer also touched on the importance of teaching young children these lessons during his speech.

"Freedom is not really free, and they learn that in school," said Dwyer. "Keep encouraging your children, your grandchildren, and your relatives to understand what freedom truly is. It's standing here in front of us today."
