Lobsters Go To Super Tie Breaker

Eric Butorac played the best match of his Lobster career last night.

The Washington Kastles and Martina Hingis were back in town last night to play the Boston Lobsters.  Earlier in the season the Kastles won their 34th straight match, setting a professional team record.

Lobster Amir Weintraub got the night started on the right foot (claw?) by beating Bobby Reynolds 5-4.

2013 Tennis Hall of Fame Inductee Martina Hingis defeated Jill Craybas 5-2 giving the Kastles a 9-7 lead.

Eric Butorac and Amir Weintraub had a 5-2 win over Bobby Reynolds and Frederik Nielsen.  The Lobsters went into ½ time with a 12-11 lead.

During ½ time John Silver co-chair of the board of directors of the Jane Goodall Institute talked about the importance of Jane’s work including Roots & Shoots, the chip sanctuary Tchimpounga, women empowerment and conservation.  The crowd was encouraged to text chimp to 20222 to donate $10 to JGI.

Jill Craybas and Katalin Marosi stumbled in women’s doubles against Martina Hingis & Anastasia Rodionova.  They lost 5-0, giving the Kastles a 16-12 lead going into the last set.

The mixed doubles pairing of Katalin Marosi and Eric Butorac refused to back down again Martina Hingis and Frederik Nielsen.  As the set progressed, Eric got stronger and stronger and lead the Lobsters to a 5-2 win making the score 18-17 Kastles.  With that they went to a tie breaker.  Again Eric came on strong and lead them to win a making the score 18-18.    This forced a super tie breaker – the first team to reach 7 points would win the match.  The Kastles came out strong.  Although Eric and Kata made a valiant effort they came up short (7-3) giving the Kastles a 19-18 win.

The Kastles clinched a playoff spot last night.  The Lobsters are in a 3 way tie for 2nd place.  They have 1 home and 1 away match to play in the 2013 season.  It will come down to the last match to determine if they make the playoffs.   Come cheer the Lobster on in their last regular season home match tonight as they take on Vania King and the Springfield Lasers at 7pm.  Tickets are still available.  Visit www.bostonlobsters.net for more information.
