Where were the Lobsters?

A funny thing happened at the Lobster match on Monday - the team was not there.

The stadium was ready for the night’s Boston Lobsters vs NY Sportimes match.  The vendors were all set up.  The sponsor tables were displayed.  Fans were arriving.  Private parties were happening.  The Sportimes warmed up.  The only thing missing were the Boston Lobsters.   Where were they?  They were at the airport in Washington DC.

The night before, the Boston Lobsters had played the Washington Kastles in DC.  It was the Kastles 34th win in a row – the most by any US professional sports team.  Their last loss was more than 2 years ago to the Boston Lobsters.  Their win streak was stopped the following by the Texas Wild.

The Lobsters arrived at the airport Wednesday morning to find that their flight to Boston was delayed as were all other flights to Boston.  The team was told that the runways in Boston were fogged in.   Tornado warnings were also popping up and a tornado touched down in Connecticut.  The team boarded the plane several times only to disembark.  Ever wonder what a tennis team does to amuse themselves while waiting for a plane?  http://youtu.be/wuQ27YnWY6U

The team finally landed at Logan and made a mad dash to the hotel for a quick change before another mad dash to the venue.  Just as warm-ups ended, it began to rain and the match was moved inside.  The match started at 10:29 pm.  About 150 hardy fans were on hand to watch the match.

Each of the matches was close, with several games going to 3-3.  The breaks did not go the Lobsters' way.   Only Jill Craybus won her match (5-4).    It was a valiant fight but the Lobsters lost 24-17.

Their next home match is on Sunday @ 6 pm.  Mark Philippoussis will be playing for the Lobsters.  Mark arrives in Boston from London where he won Wimbledon Legends with doubles partner Thomas Enqvist.  The Lobster will have a radar gun out to measure how fast his serve is.
