Obituary: Paul A. Dowd, 55, Woburn High Graduate and US Marine

Obituary from Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home:

Paul A. Dowd passed away at his home on Monday, May 26, amongst his beloved family. The loving husband of Linda (Miguel) Dowd, he was 55 years of age.

Born and raised in the South End of the city, he was one of four children of the late Frederick W. and Jeannette (Kane) Dowd. He attended Woburn Schools, graduating from Woburn High School with the Class of 1977.

Immediately following graduation, Paul proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served his country for six years, achieving the rank of corporal.

Upon his return home he began working as a transmission mechanic, which he has done for the past 29 years. As a matter of fact, he was such a perfectionist when it came to handling transmissions, he passed his expertise on to others, teaching transmission work at Lowell Automotive.

Paul reconnected with an old classmate when in his mid-twenties, Linda Miguel. Their relationship blossomed and in November of 1994, they married. Making their home in the West Side, they brought two wonderful daughters into the world to whom Paul was completely devoted. He would do anything for his children and loved them “to the moon and back.”

As a family, they enjoyed many happy summers in York Beach, Maine, where flying kites, swimming, and soaking up the sun was the itinerary for each day. Paul was very proud of his daughters and had a deep love for his family, always there to lend a helping hand or chauffeur his daughters to their many activities. Paul, also an avid sports enthusiast, enjoyed taking in any and all baseball, football, and hockey games.

On Sunday afternoon the Dowd home was filled with all the love and happiness of a wedding day. Their daughter Carolyn married the love of her life, Timothy J. Collins, at home so that her Dad was there to be a part of it all. It truly was a wonderfully beautiful day for all.

Paul lived his life to the fullest. He felt that the Marine Corps had a true impact on his life, displaying daily the core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment. Semper Fi!

Paul was predeceased by his parents, Frederick W. and Jeannette (Kane) Dowd, and his brother, James M. Dowd.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Linda (Miguel) Dowd; his daughters, Christina M. Dowd and her companion Daniel C. D’Elia, and Carolyn A.
