LETTER: Muns Thanks Hampton Voters

The candidate was elected to the House on Tuesday.

To ALL the voters of Hampton,

I look forward to representing our town in Concord for the next two years as one of your representatives in the state House of Representatives.

To those of you who voted for me: thank you for your support and vote of confidence; I will do my best not to let you down. To those of you who did not vote for me: I will do my best to earn your trust these next two years. While we may not always agree, I hope that you come to see me as someone who is willing to listen and engage with you in an open and honest conversation about what is best for our community. We face many challenges, but those challenges present us with opportunities. If we focus on the 80 percent that we all have in common and less on the 20 percent that divides us, then there is no limit to what we can do together.

Congratulations also to my good friend Renny Cushing and to Fred Rice and Tracy Emerick on their elections as representatives in District 21 and to Elaine Ahearn (another good friend) on her election in District 37. I look forward to working with all four of them to represent you, the people of Hampton, in our state House of Representatives.

I ran for state representative in 2010 and came up short, so I know the empty feeling that comes with losing. I would like to thank Ken Sheffert not only for running but for his service in the house these past two years, Joe Korowski, Sharleene Page Hurst and in particular two of my other good friends, Dick Desrosiers and Mike Edgar for their willingness to put themselves “out there” for you the voters. Since Dick and Mike were my running mates, I know how hard they worked and how much they wanted to represent our community. I hope that they both will have an opportunity to continue to do so.

At the risk of being bold or presumptuous let me also say on behalf of ALL the candidates who were on the ballot this fall: thank you for your patience and understanding – for all the knocks on your door, the phone calls to your home, the literature in your mailbox, and the commercials on your T.V. Our political process is not perfect – and there is plenty of room for improvement – but our system of government is still the envy of the world. Thank you VERY much!  And with the holiday season rapidly coming upon us, let me be the first to wish you and your family a happy holidays... and... ”enjoy” all of those holiday ads on T.V.!
