Accused Boston Marathon May Face Trial in Woburn

Accused Boston marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will stand trial in Middlesex County for the murder of Somerville resident and MIT police officer Sean Collier, according to the Boston Globe.

At Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn on Wednesday, prosecutors obtained a warrant for Tsarnaev to arraign him on murder charges in the death of Collier, according to the Globe. Middlesex Superior Court is located at 200 Trade Center in Woburn.

He will also face charges of assault with attempt to murder stemming from a shootout with Watertown police officers, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's office.

Tsarnaev, 20, of Cambridge, was indicted by a county grand jury in June for Collier's murder, according to the Globe and the Middlesex District Attorney.

Obtaining the warrant was a procedural matter to ensure Tsarnaev is eventually arraigned in state court, although he most likely won't appear in a Middlesex County court until his federal trial is over, according to the Globe. 

Dzhokhar and his brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was killed during a confrontation with police in Watertown on April 19, are alleged to have created a pair of bombs that exploded at the Boston Marathon finish line April 15, killing three and wounding hundreds. 

Tsarnaev was arrested on April 19, after a 24-hour-long standoff with police. After his arrest, he was held in a hospital to recuperate from wounds sustained during his capture and was later transported to a military prison in Fort Devens.
