Brothers Arrested on Assault and Drug Charges

An excerpt from the WPD police log. The following arrest information was supplied by the Woburn Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Woburn Police Department log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account.

Featured Incident:

On Sunday, Sept. 30, at 10:52 p.m. an officer was called to a disturbance on Milan Ave. where a dispatcher said the front door was kicked in by a relative at the home. Police had been at the home earlier in the day as well at 3:52 p.m. and 10:29 p.m.

Upon arriving, the officer found Azam Sharwani being held to the ground by a family member. He was placed into handcuffs and told he was being arrested for disturbing the peace. About 30 minutes earlier Azam's brother, Kyber K. Sharwani, 28, of 33 Milan Ave., Woburn, had been arrested for assault and battery, but Azam had allegedly fled the scene.

While police were searching for Azam, dispatch received the call that he was kicking in the door. Significant damage was done to the door with the screen ripped and inside door frame shattered. Damage appeared to be greater than $250.

Once back at the station, an officer was booking Azam and allegedly found 12 pills in a clear bag inside a wallet with his identification in it. According to a drug database, 10 of the pills were Clonazepam and two were oxycodone.

Azam was charged with disturbing the peace, malicious destruction of property, possession of Class B drugs and possession of Class C drugs. Kyber was charged with domestic assault and battery.
