Disturbing and Threatening Phone Scam Reported

An excerpt from the WPD police log. The following arrest information was supplied by the Woburn Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Woburn Police Department log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

July 23- 

At 2:04 p.m. a woman came to the lobby to report a possible scam. She said that someone called her cellphone stating that her son had rear-ended his BMW and that he wanted money. The woman said she asked the caller to let her speak with her son but the man said he was unconscious. When she asked why the caller why her son was unconscious and he said he had hit him with a gun and was now pointing the weapon at his head while they talked. The caller said if she wanted to see her son alive again should would meet him with $2,500.

The woman said at that point she lost the phone connection and the man did not answer when she called back. She then called her son who said everything was okay and that he was at work. He did not recognize the number of the scam caller and didn’t have any idea who he could be.

July 23- 

At 8:34 a.m. police responded to a Bartlett Drive residence on a report of two stolen BMX bikes. The caller said he keeps the bikes in a locked shed but when he went outside that morning he found the lock was missing from the door and the bikes were gone.

The caller said one of the bikes was a BMX Fit with an all black frame and white rims. He said it was worth $290. The other bike was a BMX Diamond Back Venom worth $420.

 

At 12:53 p.m. police responded to a Webster Avenue residence on a report of a stolen bicycle. The caller said that his purple and white NEXT Power Chamber mountain bike was stolen from outside his back door He said the bike was left outside the night before and his wife noticed it was missing that morning.

The bike was worth about $300.
