Dog Attack Leaves Child With Over 60 Stitches

The following is an excerpt from the Woburn Police Department log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

July 31- 

At 5:02 p.m. police checked in with a Main Street residence on a report of a past dog attack.

Police spoke to the mother of the child who had reportedly been attacked by the family pit bull. The woman said the dog, a 2-year-old, pit bull, was currently at her ex-husband’s house.

Police spoke to the child who said that on Sunday, July 28 he bent down to give the dog a kiss and it bit his face. The child required 60-80 stiches from the attack. The child also said the dog had bit him on the arm last February when he bent over to take a bone away and that attack left scars on his arm.

The mother said she didn’t want the dog in her home anymore but had a friend who would take it. Police said they were going to quarantine the animal for 10 days to assess its aggression level.

July 31-

At 10:10 a.m. police responded to Weston & Sampson at 225 New Boston Street on a report of scrap metal being taken from the yard of the company.

Police spoke to the shop manager who said that that a pump body that was in the side yard had been taken between 6 p.m. the night before and 6 a.m. that morning. The pump body weighed approximately 600 pounds and was worth between $500 and $600 in scrap.

 

At 11:27 a.m. police responded to a Longwood Avenue residence on a report of a stolen BMX bicycle. The caller said the bike had been in the back of his vehicle the night before and he noticed that morning it was missing. The bicycle was worth about $1,500. It had a black frame with white forks, white handlebars, a white front tire and a white “EMPIRE” sticker on it. The vehicle had been left unlocked.
