Five Police Incidents That Had Woburn Talking

A look back at the week in police and fire news in Woburn.

These five stories and  entries had people talking on our Facebook page and readers clicking links this week.

July 15—At 9:05 p.m., an 18-year-old Wilmington man was taken into protective custody. Police received a report of a cafeteria alarm at the Linscott-Rumford School and found the teen lying on the grass, wearing only shorts. According to police, the 18-year-old was “heavily intoxicated.” As police checked the area, they observed a naked teenaged girl running and hiding behind an electrical box, and another teen fled behind the bushes. Police spoke to both parties who said the man lying on the grass was a “a friend of a friend.” He was taken into protective custody and the two teens were asked to leave the area. A custodian reported that nothing appeared stolen at the school.

While all to traffic, the on-and-off ramps of Washington Street remain closed this morning after last night's major hazmat incident.

Woburn Fire was forced to strike four alarms for the incident, the first time since 2002 (the Bond Shoe fire on May 20, 2002).

July 16—At 7:25 p.m., police responded to a report of a disturbance at a Sylvanus Wood Lane residence. According to police, a teenager had become upset and was hitting the wall. The mother asked police to escort the teen off the property for the night.

July 16—At 8:05 p.m., police responded to a report of a disturbance on Prospect Street. According to police, a couple had pitched a tent at a Prospect Street construction site and were planning to sleep there. A man walked by and saw the couple, then confronted them. Police told the couple they could not sleep there and to leave; the man was also asked to leave the area.

July 20—At 12:41 a.m., police were called to Turf Time on Main Street. According to police, an employee reported he left the store to buy a coffee at the Lucky Mart. While he was gone, a group playing soccer told him that four females ran into the store, shouted something that sounded like “pina colada!” before pulling a juicer machine off the wall and onto the ground, breaking it. There was no video surveillance of the incident. Police spoke to the witnesses who were unable to describe the women completely. Two women were described as blonde, two as brunettes. One woman was wearing a blue tank top, another was wearing a red or red and orange tank top.
