Featured Incident-

August 10-

At 3:37 p.m. a woman came to the lobby to report a stolen cell phone. She said she had been with a friend named “Jared” the night before and he borrowed her cell phone to call his father. They were parked at the Woburn Mall and he got out of the car and entered the mall with the phone. He left the mall a short time later with another woman but did not have the phone and only gave vague excuses as to what happened to it.

Police noticed that this was the second person who said that Jared had stolen their phones. They also realized that there is a kiosk in the Woburn Mall that buys used cell phones.

Police checked with the “Cash for Phones” kiosk and they gave the address of a female who had brought the phone. Police checked with her and she said that the night before she had met Jared randomly the night before and he told her that he wanted to sell his phone but did not have his identification on him and the kiosk required an ID with phone sales. She said she used her identification because she believed his story.

Other Incidents-

August 12-

At 3:26 p.m. police responded to a Highland Street location on a report of slashed tires. The caller showed police her Jeep that had two flattened tires.

The caller said that she and her boyfriend got into an argument the night before while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. She said that at around 3 a.m. she went to his Winn Street apartment and took all of his bedding and threw it out the window. She then returned home and went to bed. She thinks her boyfriend slashed the tires but had no evidence other than the fight. She also asked police to contact him and tell him to stay away and that the relationship was over.

Police advised her of her rights and she signed a City of Woburn Abuse Victim’s Rights form.

At 6:01 p.m. police responded to Kohl’s on a report of shoplifting. They spoke to two loss prevention officers who stated they saw a male and female in the story on the cameras and that the male pocketed a $50 blue tooth wireless speaker system. One of the loss prevention officers said she confronted the couple while the other called police. She said that when she confronted the pair the man apologized and handed her the speaker system. The two then went and paid for another item before leaving the store.

The loss prevention officer said she then followed the pair into the parking lot where they got into a car driven by another man. She said it would be in their best interest to stay since police were en route but the driver left the area.

Police, using the license plate, contacted the driver who said he was in the car and did pick up the pair from the store in the parking lot. He said he didn’t know what happened inside the store but that he would not give police the names of the two people because “he is not a rat.”

At 9:42 p.m. police on patrol heard the sound of glass breaking and went to investigate. They came to a Main Street apartment building right as a 12 pack of beer fell from an open window and shattered on the ground. Police attempted to call up to the apartment but nobody answered.

At that time a tenant from the building called police and said a neighbor was throwing bottles outside his window. Dispatch told the officers there had been a recent domestic violence incident in the apartment in question. Police knocked and called but nobody answered. They tried to door and it was unlocked so they went inside fearing that someone may be hurt.

They found a man, the tenant, alone in the apartment. He said he did have a party that night but said he didn’t throw any bottles. Police told him that if he cleaned up the mess outside they would not press charges.
