North Reading Man Charged With Sexual Assault

A North Reading man allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in a car between Woburn and North Reading on Tuesday. 

Police arrested Matthew Donoghue, 23, of North Reading, who is currently residing in Fort Bragg, NC, and charged him with indecent assault and battery and intimidation of a witness. 

A woman walked into Woburn Police on Wednesday morning to report that she was sexually assaulted in a vehicle between Woburn and North Reading.

She told police that she met Donoghue on Facebook about a year and a half ago. The North Reading man is in the US Army and recently returned from deployment in Korea. 

The victim reportedly picked up Donoghue at the Alewife MBTA station on Tuesday. She drove him to North Reading and dropped him off.

An hour later, Donoghue allegedly called the woman again and they drove around before stopping at a park in Woburn. The victim alleged that Donoghue choked her.

The two got back into the car and Donoghue reportedly shut off the GPS system on the victim's cell phone and sexually assaulted her in the car between Woburn and North Reading. 

North Reading Police saw Donoghue riding in a car at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. They pulled over the vehicle and arrested Donoghue.
