Police Clearing Elm Street Scene - Suspect in Custody

Woburn Police and other agencies are responding to a scene on Elm Street.

Update 6:02 p.m.

Channel 7 News is reporting the 24 year old male, whose name has not been released, was charged with possessing bomb making materials. Police allegedly found gun powder and PVC pipes in the residence, which could be used to make a pipe bomb.

NECN is reporting police have removed bags from 79 Elm Sreet and are clearing the scene.

Fox 25 Boston is reporting that the suspect in custody is a 24 year old male.  

Update 2:38 p.m.

North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council [NEMLEC] tweeted that their SWAT members are working with Woburn Police presently to resolve a situation on Elm St in Woburn.

NEMLEC also confirmed that the suspect is in custody by Woburn Police. No current barricade. The response now is for the alleged pipe bomb.

 

Update 2:07 p.m.

The Linscott-Rumford Elementary School told Patch that students are being released from the school. Buses are heading out and parents can come pick up their children.

Everyone at the school is reported as fine.

Update: 1:50 p.m.

There are now reports that a bomb squad is on the way to the residence for a possible pipe bomb.

Woburn Police and other agencies are reportedly rushing to a residence on Elm Street.

According to reports on Twitter and scanner traffic it appears there is a possible barricaded subject at a residence in the area of 79 Elm Street. There are reports of Woburn Police and responders from other agencies rushing to the scene and that the situation may have begun following a domestic incident. There are also reports that one person is in custody.

There are also reports of a possible explosive device in the residence.

The Linscott-Rumford Elementary School has been put under 'shelter in place mode', readers have told Woburn Patch. That appears to be as a precaution as there are no reports of anything happening at the school.

There is very little information on the situation as of yet. We will update this story as more details become available.
