POLICE LOG: Baby Jesus Stolen From Church

The following is an excerpt from the Woburn Police Department log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

Featured Call of the Day:

Dec. 28 – At 8:13 p.m., police received a report of a stolen item at St. Charles Church. According to police, an unknown suspect stole the church’s Baby Jesus statue from a display. Police observed that the suspect removed the protective covering from the display and took the figurine. Joseph and Mary were left in place.

Dec. 27 –

At 9:47 p.m., a Malden woman reported two bags stolen from her locked car while she was shopping at Target. The items taken were valued at approximately $30, said police.

Dec. 28 –

At 3:26 p.m., a Woburn man reported someone cashed a check from his bank account for several thousand dollars. According to police, the real check was made out for $40 and was altered without his permission.

At 4:08 p.m., a Woburn woman reported she lost a ring approximately a month ago. The woman described the ring as a platinum band with three diamonds. The woman asked police to file a report in case the ring was stolen.

At 4:13 p.m., a Woburn man reported his ex used a credit card without his permission.

At 5:25 p.m., police were called to a three-car accident on Pleasant Street at Valley Road. According to police, one car rear-ended another, pushing it into a third car. The car that caused the original collision did not remain at the scene, said police. Police were unable to find the vehicle.

At 6:04 p.m., a Woburn woman reported fraudulent activity through her bank account. According to police, an unknown person cashed a check that was voided by the woman. Police noted that the check was given to an insurance company for automatic payments information.

At 8:23 p.m., police responded to a possible restraining order violation.  

Dec. 29 –

At 12:42 a.m., police were dispatched to a domestic disturbance on Wade Avenue.

At 12:44 a.m., a Woburn woman reported two women following her in a vehicle. The dispatcher advised the woman to drive to the police station. When the woman did, the people following her left the area. Police were able to speak to both people involved in the incident, which stemmed from a previous issue of harassment.

At 2:25 a.m., police were called to Main Street for a report of a fight in progress on the street. According to police, when officers arrived several people involved in the fight had left the scene. Police reported that after talking to people involved, there were previous problems with the parties.

At 2:52 a.m., a Woburn man reported his car damaged while parked on Main Street.

At 6:42 p.m., police responded to a two-car accident on Main Street. According to police, one car slid out of control and collided with another vehicle head-on. There were no reported injuries.

At 8:10 p.m., police were called to a domestic dispute on Pleasant Street.  

At 11:10 p.m., Margaret C. Peterson, 51, of 99 Main St., was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace. According to police, at 10:14 p.m., an officer was called to Main Street for a report of power shut off within an apartment. Police learned that Peterson had shut off the power to her tenant’s apartment because the tenant had not paid rent. Police asked the woman to turn the power back on, at which point she did, but began screaming and yelling in the street. At 10:38 p.m., police returned to the apartment after Peterson shut the power off again. Police told Peterson to turn the power back on, but saw that she only went into the home and began screaming. The power was restored and police left the area. At 11:11 p.m., police returned to the home for a third time and found Peterson belligerent and screaming at the occupants. She was taken into custody at that time.

Dec. 30 –

At 7:05 p.m., a Woburn man reported his work laptop stolen from his locked apartment. Police observed no signs of forced entry.

At 7:46 p.m., police were called to Sylvanus Wood Lane for a report of a stolen vehicle. According to police, a woman took her boyfriend’s car without permission. Police reached the woman via cell phone and asked her to return the vehicle, which she did within 10 minutes. Police cleared the scene, but returned 15 minutes later for another disturbance. At that time, police escorted the woman from the property for the evening.
