POLICE LOG: Daytime Mugging at Woburn Mall

The following is an excerpt from the Woburn Police Department log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

Featured Call of the Day:

Sept. 16 – At 4:51 p.m., a Woburn man reported two men attempted to mug him while in the Woburn Mall parking lot. According to police, the man said he was bumped by two men in the parking lot as he exited his car. The men told him to get back into the car and showed a knife, said police. The victim got back into the car, kicked the door at the two men, and was able to shut the door and get away. One of the suspects did hit the man with the butt-end of the knife, said police.

Sept. 14 –

At 9:40 a.m., a Woburn woman reported her cell phone lost or stolen while she was at Stop & Shop. Police were able to track the phone to a Woburn address and spoke to the man at that home. The man told police he had found the phone and was trying to figure out who owned it. The man told police he would bring the phone to the police station that day.

At 10:25 a.m., police received a report of two box trucks vandalized overnight with spray-paint. According to police, both trucks were parked in the Kimball Court Apartment lot when they were tagged with spray-paint. Police reported an ice cream truck and a cleaning services truck had various symbols and lettering painted onto the sides.

At 12:03 p.m., a Middle Street man reported someone broke into his home and spray-painted an expletive onto a basement wall.

At 3:37 p.m., a Woburn man reported a woman had approached him, interested in purchasing his house. The man told police that the woman is using his address to receive mail, even though he is not selling her the home.

At 7:03 p.m., police responded to a pedestrian accident on Main Street near Richardson. According to police, a vehicle stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross in the crosswalk. A car struck the vehicle from behind, causing the first car to strike the pedestrian. A witness reported the second driver was using a cell phone at the time of the accident.    

Sept. 15 –

At 11:26 a.m., police were called to a two-car accident on Bedford Road. According to police, one car rear-ended another that was slowing down for traffic. There were no reported injuries.

At 12:34 p.m., a Waltham man reported his wife’s car keyed while parked at the China Pearl restaurant.

At 3:57 p.m., police responded to Qdoba at the Woburn Mall after a Woburn woman drove into the restaurant building. According to police, the woman said she thought she was pressing on the brake when she was really stepping on the gas. Police said the woman was not injured.

At 6:25 p.m., police were called to Eastern Avenue for a report of an unwanted party. Police asked the woman to leave the area.

Sept. 16 –

At 11:08 a.m., a Burlington Street man reported his car’s battery stolen while the car was parked in the lot at his residence.

At 3:04 p.m., police responded to a Woburn business for a report of threats made via telephone. According to police, an employee’s ex-boyfriend was calling her cell phone and the business’s phone repeatedly and threatening her. The police officer reported the man called seven times while he was there and each time, the man hung up when the officer answered. Through an interpreter, police advised the man that he needed to stop calling the woman or he would face police charges.

At 3:20 p.m., a New Hampshire man reported an assault in a Woburn home earlier that morning. According to police, the man said he was at the Woburn address when he argued with his girlfriend’s brother and three of his friends. The man told police that he said the men were bad influences on his girlfriend’s brother and the men assaulted him. The victim suffered injuries to his eye, a fractured orbital bone and a laceration over the ear.
