POLICE LOG: Drunk Driver Crosses Yellow Line

The following is an excerpt from the  log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

Featured Call of the Day:

Aug. 28 – At 10:07 p.m., Amanda B. Gillis, 31, of 11 Karen Road, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of liquor (second offense) and leaving the scene of property damage (two counts). According to police, an officer on routine traffic patrol approached Eaton Avenue and saw two cars parked and two people flagging down the officer. Police reported a man and a woman told them the driver of the other car crossed the double yellow line and struck their car, although they swerved to avoid a collision. They followed the other car, driven by Gillis, as she left the area, striking a parked car, before both cars pulled over. Police spoke to Gillis at the scene, who reportedly struggled to get out of her car, and then failed field sobriety tests.

Aug. 28 –

At 2:34 p.m., police responded to Prospect Street for a report of a car crash involving a bicyclist. According to police, a cyclist struck the rear of a passing car. The cyclist told police he had no brakes. There were no serious injuries.

At 3:48 p.m., a Carroll Road woman reported a missing check. According to police, the woman normally receives a check on Fridays from a payroll company in Maine. The check did not arrive this week and her mail carrier reported not seeing it this week.

At 4:28 p.m., police responded to a crash on Montvale Avenue. According to police, a motorcyclist rear-ended another car stopped in traffic. The motorcyclist told police the driver stopped suddenly and when he tried to switch lanes, he hit the car. The car’s driver said she was stopped for heavy traffic at the time of the accident, reported police. The motorcyclist was partially thrown off the bike, but refused medical treatment, said police. The motorcycle was towed from the scene.

At 5:13 p.m., a Merrimac Street business employee reported his car damaged during the day. According to police, someone stole two lights off of the vehicle.
