POLICE LOG: Home Break-in With Over $2,500 in Items Taken

The following is an excerpt from the Woburn Police Department log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

Jan. 29-

At 5:39 p.m. police responded to an Altavesta Circle caller who reported a past breaking and entering. Caller said that when he returned home at 5:30 p.m. he noticed the door to the basement was open. He then realized his television, laptop and PlayStation 3 were missing.  A second resident reported her laptop was also stolen. In total approximately $2,850 in items were taken.

Police found tracks in the snow behind the building and observed that the door into the basement had been forced open.

Other Incidents

Jan. 29-

At 2:04 p.m. police spoke to a manager at TJ Maxx about a number of shoplifting incidents that occurred between Nov. 2012 and Jan. 2013. The manager stated that in each of the incidents the suspect thwarted the electronic security tags placed on items by dipping them into a cup of soda. The manager said he had found five cups of soda with destroyed tags inside.

According to the report, on Jan. 22 police arrested a suspect for shoplifting at TJ Maxx who was with another suspect that fled before police arrived. The manager stated he believed they were the suspects in the tag-dumping scheme.

At 3:57 p.m. a caller reported his wallet was stolen from the center console of his motor vehicle. Victim did not know exactly when or where the theft occurred but noticed the missing wallet that day.

At 4:48 p.m. a person came to the station to report the past breaking and entering of their motor vehicle. Victim reported her vehicle was broken into sometime between 7 p.m. the night before and that morning. She did not observe any damage to the vehicle but believed it was locked. She reported a Lenova ThinkPad computer, headphones, a document scanner a red briefcase, an iPod and textbooks were stolen, approximately $1,250 in total value.

Jan. 30-

At 10:06 a.m. a Main Street resident approached an on-duty officer to report that after a confrontation with his landlord over throwing away a fan his landlord pushed him against a dumpster. The complainant added that the landlord also threatened to throw him into the dumpster. The victim said he was unhurt and police advised him of his right to press charges. Police were unable to contact the landlord at the time to get his side of the story.
