POLICE LOG: Man Accused of Stealing Vegetables

The following is an excerpt from the Woburn Police Department  log.  Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

Featured Call of the Day:

Sept. 23 – At 4:53 p.m., police were called to the Iannachi Farm Stand on Lexington Street for a report of suspicious activity involving a man driving a white vehicle. A police officer en route to the call encountered the white car and pulled the man over. According to police, the man repeatedly stated, “I didn’t do anything.” Police spoke to a witness who said that the man was seen picking vegetables in the community gardens, even though he did not have a garden in the area. The witness said he asked the man what he was doing and the man ran from the area. Police were unable to find the vegetables in his possession. Police asked the man to leave the area and not return.

Sept. 20 –

At 12:44 p.m., a 29-year-old Malden woman was summonsed to Woburn District Court for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and misuse of a handicap parking plate. According to police, officers saw the woman walking quickly toward her car, which was parked in a handicapped spot in the Stop & Shop parking lot. Police discovered she had a suspended license and stopped her vehicle.   

Sept. 21 –

At 2:32 p.m., police responded to a two-car accident on Washington Street at Dewey Avenue. According to police, one driver was turning onto Dewey when it was struck by a vehicle traveling straight on Washington. There were no reported injuries.

At 3:14 p.m., police assisted Woburn Fire with a medical aid on Campbell Street. One person was transported to Lahey Clinic.

At 4 p.m., a Main Street woman reported her parked car had been side-swiped and damaged.

At 4 p.m., police responded to Kohl’s for a report of shoplifting. According to police, a Woburn man exited the fitting room while wearing a pair of pants he did not pay for. An employee stopped the man, who said he intended on buying the pants. Police escorted the man to the fitting room where he put on his own pants and returned the merchandise to the employee. The store is seeking a no-trespass order against the man.  

At 6:08 p.m., police were called to a two-car accident at Common and Main streets. According to police, one car sped up on a truck’s right, in attempt to get through the downtown rotary first. The truck struck the car, pinning it against the curb. There were no injuries. The driver of the car was cited for failure to yield to the right of way.

At 6:30 p.m., police were dispatched to a two-car accident on Winn Street at Pete’s Roast Beef. There were no reported injuries.

At 7 p.m., a Woburn woman reported receiving harassing phone calls from a man named “Mickey” from Fort Meyers, Florida.

At 7:08 p.m., a Liberty Avenue woman reported her car tire punctured while parked in front of her home.

At 11:08 p.m., a Billerica woman was involved in a one-car accident on Lee Road. According to police, the woman said she blacked out due to a migraine and backed her vehicle into a utility pole.

Sept. 22 –

At 3:47 p.m., an Anna Road resident reported her home was broken into and several items were stolen, including a laptop computer, a Baroque pearl necklace and other jewelry. Police reported the suspect likely gained entry through a basement door that was pried open.

At 5:57 p.m., a Belmont woman reported her car broken into while it was parked at Joe’s American Bar & Grill on Mishawum Road. According to police, the back window was smashed open. A laptop, several calling cards, paperwork, stamps and bank documents were taken, said police.

At 7:37 p.m., an Inwood Drive resident reported his iPhone stolen. Using Find My iPhone technology, the device was tracked to a Lawrence residence. An officer contacted the Lawrence Police and asked if they could locate the phone.

Sept. 23 –

At 6:49 p.m., police responded to a two-car accident in the Kohl’s parking lot. According to police, one car was traveling in the lot when a car pulled out of a spot and struck it. The driver pulling out of the spot was found at fault, said police. There were no reported injuries.

At 11:09 p.m., a Woburn woman reported an unwanted party at her residence. Police spoke to the man, who was intoxicated but cooperative, and escorted him off the property. Police also retrieved the man’s keys to the residence.
