POLICE LOG: Man Steals iPhones, Caught By Police Moments Later

An excerpt from the Woburn Police Department's April 21 police log.

The following is an excerpt from the  log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

April 21 –

At 9:13 a.m., police responded to a Dragon Court business for a report of youths congregating in a lot. According to the caller, a group of youths were seen going in and out of the lot. When police searched the area, they found BB pellets and broken glass near the dumpster.

At 10:57 a.m., Elaine Theresa Gargano, 50, 79C Montvale Ave. Apt. #1, was arrested and charged with larceny over $250. According to police, Gargano was taken into custody after she allegedly tried to exchange a bedding set for another, but she had not purchased any bedding set, at Kohls. Gargano was stopped by a Kohls loss prevention officer and detained until police arrived.

At 11:30 a.m., police responded to a Montvale Avenue home for a well-being check. According to callers, the resident had missed a doctor’s appointment and some friends had tried to reach the person and could not earlier in the day. Police called a locksmith to open the residence door, but were unable to. Woburn Fire gained entry to the home through a second-floor window. Police searched the apartment and could not find the resident.

At 11:38 a.m., a Canton man reported his laptop was taken from his unlocked car on April 12 while it was parked at the Masonic Temple on Arlington Road. The man also reported that he believed he found the laptop for sale on the Internet. Detectives are investigating the online sale.

At 12:15 p.m., police responded to a two-car accident on Montvale Avenue. According to police, a driver did not see a red light and went through the intersection, striking another vehicle. The driver was cited for a red light violation.  

At 3:08 p.m., Akim Jonathan Lloyd, 19, of 31 Patterson Way Apt. #458 in Boston, was arrested and charged with larceny over $250 and receiving stolen property over $250. Police responded to a report of a theft at the at the . According to the caller, a black male wearing black pants, black sweatshirt and a baseball hat with yellow writing on it, had just taken two iPhones and fled the store. Two officers, who were directing traffic, at an accident on Mishawum Road near Gardner Street saw a car with a black male fitting the description of the suspect “laying across the back seat trying to conceal his identity.” The officers followed the vehicle and saw that it had stopped on Washington Street. According to police, a man was seen jogging away from the vehicle. He was stopped and admitted to taking the two iPhones from the store. The phones were recovered on the ground near the suspect.
