Police Log: Stolen Laptop Leaves Log-in Trail

The following is an excerpt from the Woburn Police Department log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

Sept. 22

At 7:55 a.m., a Lexington Street resident reported that the company vehicle he drives was damaged overnight while it was parked in his driveway. The driver’s side passenger window of the passenger van was smashed, “likely (by) a BB or pellet-type projectile.” No other reports of similar vandalism were reported, according to the police report. The van is used to transport special needs clients.

At 9:08 a.m., police responded to a report of a domestic incident at a Main Street address, where a woman and her son were arguing about money. Both reportedly told police the argument was verbal only. The son, 29, said he would get the issue straightened out when he got up. That was fine with his mother. Neither of them had called police.

At 11:34 a.m., a Park Drive resident called police because she wanted her grandson to leave the house. The grandson swears about troubles with his girlfriend and, according to the grandmother, when she asks him to stop he turns his verbal anger on her. He left the house without incident.

At 3:32 p.m., A Blueberry Hill Road resident reported the theft of a computer and monitor, a flat screen TV and a DVD/VCR, with a total value of $1,600. Police found a chair from the deck near a window that appeared to be the point of entry into the house. An inspector processed the scene.

At 9:40 p.m., a Beverly man visiting a friend at Kimball Court complex reported that he left a backpack on the hood of his car when he left with his friend in the friend’s car. When he returned a few hours later, the backpack was gone. It contained a Macbook laptop, a video camera, a flip camera and personal items. The computer contains tracking software that shows every address logged in to the computer. The man tracked the computer’s use to Wakefield at 4:25 p.m. and to Saugus at 8:30 p.m. Police called the Comcast law enforcement help desk; it was closed except for emergencies. A Comcast employee reportedly told police to file an investigation affidavit. An officer will forward this report to the Criminal Bureau for follow up.
