POLICE LOG: Woman Uses Axe to Get to Victim

The following is an excerpt from the  log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

Sept. 6 –

At 1:02 p.m., a 33-year-old Melrose man was summonsed to Woburn District Court for larceny over $250. According to police, a company reported a group home manager had stolen cash, an iPad and made personal credit card purchases without authorization. The calling party also told investigators that the man left the group home with no food. Police also believe the man may have stolen medication, as well. The investigation is ongoing.

At 11 p.m., a 21-year-old Woburn man was cited for operating with a suspended registration. Police reported the man was cited during a routine motor vehicle stop.

Sept. 7 –

At 9:27 a.m., police were dispatched to a one-car accident on Main Street involving a truck with a camper. According to police, the camper struck a utility pole as the truck was pulling over to the side of the road. There were no injuries. Police reported the camper received damage, but the pole did not.

At 10:49 a.m., Charles F. Justice Jr., 41, of 2 Hancock St. Apt. #6 in Malden, was arrested and charged with distribution of a Class A substance (heroin). .

At 10:49 a.m., James Francis Leahy, 30, of 2 Pinevale Ave. Apt. #2 in Burlington, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to violate the drug law. .

At 11:24 p.m., Matthew Joseph DeCosta, 31, of 49 High St., was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license (subsequent offense), use of motor vehicle without authority, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. According to police, DeCosta was approached by police when he appeared to be arguing with someone outside of Tudo Na Brasa on Main Street. Police learned that DeCosta did not have permission to drive the car he was operating and the 31-year-old was taken into custody.

Sept. 8 –

At 9:47 a.m., a 29-year-old Woburn man was summonsed to court for breaking and entering into a motor vehicle/boat (misdemeanor charge) and larceny under $250. According to police, two witnesses reported seeing the man take a wallet from a parked car on Lake Avenue on Sept. 7.

At 3:23 p.m., police conducted a medical aid on Harrison Avenue.

At 4:31 p.m., a Woburn Police officer was flagged down by a woman who reported witnessing a hit-and-run car crash. According to police, the witness said a white van hit a car, then sped off. Another witness, and the two people in the car that was hit, corroborated the crash details, said police. The officer ran the license plate of the van and found that the driver lived in Burlington. With the help of Burlington Police, the man was contacted and admitted involvement in the crash. The man was summonsed to court for leaving the scene of a property damage accident and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

At 4:46 p.m., police responded to Revere Road for a disturbance. According to police, a Woburn Fire truck was driving on the street when the firefighters observed a fight in one of the yards. The firefighters broke up the argument and called police. Officers advised both men involved of their right to seek a criminal complaint against the other. Police said both men were calm and apologetic when officers cleared the scene.

At 5:22 p.m., a Wilmington woman reported her wallet stolen while she was shopping at Tuesday Morning on Cambridge Road.

At 5:40 p.m., police responded to a one-car accident on Campbell Street. According to police, a 33-year-old woman backed her car into a home and then accelerated, knocking the electric meter off of the house. The woman was cited for failure to use care and caution.

Sept. 9 –

During the day shift, Elto Vieira DeSouza, 49, of 23 Mason St. in Peabody, was arrested and charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. According to police, DeSouza was seen driving over the double-yellow line on Main Street during routine traffic patrol.

At 8:28 a.m., a New York woman reported her laptop stolen from her car while it was parked in the Courtyard Marriot parking lot.

At 10:30 a.m., police received a report of a broken window pane in a door at the Sea Dog Brew Pub.

At 10:37 a.m., police responded to a two-car accident on Bedford Road.

At 10:42 a.m., a Verizon employee reported a suspicious person in the parking lot. According to police, the fence of the property had been tampered with and ground wire and copper cables were found near the fence. The suspect was not found on scene, said police.

At 11:22 a.m., a Woburn woman reported her Xbox gaming system and controller stolen from her home.

At 6:08 p.m., a 33-year-old Woburn man was summonsed to court for operating a motor vehicle after license revocation and speeding greater than reasonable. Police reported the man was stopped during a routine traffic patrol on Mishawum Road.

At 7:49 p.m., a 20-year-old Methuen woman was summonsed to court for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, a motor vehicle lights violation and not having an inspection sticker. Police reported the woman was stopped during routine traffic patrol after the officer noticed she had no brake lights.

At 7:59 p.m., a 27-year-old Somerville man was summonsed to court for negligent operation of a motor vehicle. According to police, an officer responded to Wood Street for a report of a car flipped over and on its roof. Police reported smoke was coming out of the vehicle, but the driver had been able to escape before police arrived. The driver told police that he looked at the radio and when he looked up, “something” had run out in front of him. Police also reported that the man told another officer that he looked at the radio and when he looked up, he saw that his car had drifted to the other side of the road. Witnesses told police that the man was speeding and did not apply the brakes before crashing into the utility pole and flipping the car over.

At 9:25 p.m., a 47-year-old Woburn man was summonsed to court for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license (subsequent offense) and not having a license in his possession. According to police, the man was stopped during routine traffic patrol.
