Featured Incident

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 4 p.m. police were called to Poole Street for a breaking and entering of a residence.

The homeowner said she returned home about five minutes ago and discovered the break in. The woman reported that she left the house at 2:35 p.m. and everything was fine.

According to a neighbor, a brown pick up truck had been parked in the area at about 3:30 p.m., but they did not see anyone get in or out of it. The neighbor's son returned home at about 3:50 p.m. and did not see the vehicle.

A K-9 unit picked up on a scent near a cellar door and followed it along the garage side of the house to the front yard, across the driveway and to the area where the truck had been seen. At that point, the dog lost the scent.

Police walked through the home with the victim, who had originally noticed a silver spoon on the floor that was from her silver set that was in the dining room. It had been moved and opened, and the doors on the hutch were open. A laptop was found to be missing from the kitchen porch desk, and that was when the woman initially called police.

A check of the rest of the house revealed that every room had been gone through. A jewelry box containing antique jewelry was missing along with more from a closet. A pillow case with several items in it was also reported missing along with another laptop.

It appeared that the suspect came in through the front door that the resident may have forgotten to lock. The suspect may have forced their way out the cellar door.

Officers were able to locate some footprints that did not match the size of the victim. The resident was going to attempt to locate the serial numbers for stolen items to assist police in the investigation.
