Red Cross, Donohue Team Up for Summer Blood Drive

Woburn resident and injured MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr. and the American Red Cross recently announced they will jon forces to promote a summer blood drive, according to the officer'sFacebook page.

The partnership between Donohue and the Red Cross was announced on Wednesday, according to the Facebook page. 

Donohue, 33, of Woburn, who was recently released from Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown, was wounded during a shootout in Watertown with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects in July.

"Excited to announce we have partnered with the American Red Cross to promote summer blood donations!" reads the Facebook post. "We will be hosting a drive to benefit Mount Auburn on Thursday, July 18 at the Marriott Copley Hotel. 

"Dic used all of the Mt. Auburn blood supply as well as (blood supplies from three) neighboring hospitals, requiring more than 46 blood products, including red cells, platelets and plasma, to help save his life. We hope we can give back just a small part of what we were given." 

The blood drive will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 18 at Boston Marriott Copley Place, 110 Huntington Ave., Boston.
