Search On for Suspect Who Broke Into Cars, Waded into River

Nashua's dive assisted Hudson Police in the search for a man who was seen breaking into cars before he escaped to the river bank.

Police in Hudson are seeking the public's help in finding a man who eluded them by wading into the river.

At about 6:40 p.m. Hudson Police responded to the neighborhood near Maple and Fulton streets for a report of a man breaking into cars.

Residents chased him away from Maple Avenue, but he was then reported to be found inside a car on Fulton Street by a resident. The man fled the area on foot and an extensive search of the area was conducted by police.

A Hudson Police detective in the area checked under the Veterans Bridge, and observed a man standing on the river’s edge.  Upon his approach, the subject waded into the river and then appeared to be swimming upstream. The detective soon lost sight of the man. An extensive search of the riverbank was undertaken, and when there was no evidence that the man left the water he Hudson Fire Department was called immediately and responded to the area with the Nashua Fire Department.

The river was searched with boats form Hudson and Nashua. No one was found in the water. The New Hampshire State Police search dogs conducted an area search and, again, no one was found.

The search was called off due to the frigid water temperature. Officers from New Hampshire Fish and Game were expected to resume the search Thursday morning.

The Hudson Police department asks that anyone with information on this incident or anyone with a missing family member who would have been in the Hudson area contact Hudson Police at 603-886-6011.
