He was wanted for distribution of cocaine and other drug violations near a school/park. Smith has been charged on two occasions for failing to register as a Level 3 sex offender and he “continues to violate his obligations as a Level 3 sex offender,” said State Police.

Smith was convicted in a 1988 indecent assault and battery case in which he forced his way into a woman’s bedroom and sexually assaulted her. He was also convicted of indecent assault and battery in 2002 when he sexually assaulted another woman.

State Police arrested Smith with the help of Boston Police detectives and U.S. marshals.

The second arrest on Wednesday was by the New Jersey State Police, which arrested George A. Smith. Massachusetts State Police received information that Smith was on a bus in New Jersey.

New Jersey State Police and U.S. marshals conducted a traffic stop of the bus and arrested Smith.

Smith had two outstanding warrants for failing to register as a sex offender.

Smith was convicted of rape in 1978 after a violent sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in Boston. He reportedly grabbed her around the neck and dragged her to the roof of a housing project where he raped her. He was given a 12-year state prison sentence for the attack.
